Zomato recently recorded about 600 customer support colleagues, which represents a major transformation in the recruitment strategy. These hairstyles occurred within a year of employment within the framework of the Zomato Assocate Accelerator (ZAAP), which aims to transfer employees to various roles within the company. Repetition was primarily reported in the company’s Gurugram and Hyderabad offices.

ZAAP is designed to provide new opportunities for employees in various jobs such as sales, operations and software management. However, many contract employees have not seen their contracts renewed, which led to unexpected losses in jobs.

“The majority of the employees who were appointed as part of the Zomato Zomato program last year, was abandoned during the past week or so without any clear explanation,” a customer support employee said.

Workers’ layoffs have been attributed to a slowdown in the basic food delivery work in Zomato and the increasing losses in the fast trade company, Blinkit. In addition, Zomato was investing in automation to reduce costs, including developing a customer support platform for Amnesty International, GURT. This platform can manage more than 15 million reactions per month and solve up to 80 % of customer inquiries without human intervention.

The affected employees were offered to a month’s salary as compensation, but they were terminated without any notice period. Some of the reasons stipulated in the demobilization of workers included weak issues and dates of adherence to the appointments. “I didn’t think I would write this, but here we are. Today, I was expelled from Zomato when I can only describe it as a ridiculous and unfair reason,” I shared a former social media employee.

In December 2022, Zomato had previously listed about 100 employees, or nearly 4 % of its working power, through various departments. Playing employees express their concerns about job security and increased dependence on automation, which reduced the need for human intervention in customer support roles.

Despite the demobilization of the workers, the Zomato shares increased by 0.84 % after the announcement, indicating the investor’s confidence in the company’s measures to reduce costs.

The atmosphere within the company is said to be tense, as employees worry about future possibilities amid these changes.
