President Voludimir Zelinski of Ukraine agreed to a phone call on Wednesday with President Trump to accept Russia’s offer to take a mutual stop in the attacks on energy targets as a step towards a broader ceasefire.

In a post on social media, Mr. Trump said he was a “very good” conversation with Mr. Zellinski, and a joint statement later from his national security adviser, and the Foreign Minister said that the conversation “helped greatly move to end the war.”

Mr. Zelinski seemed a similar note in his post on his social media, describing the conversation as “very positive, very fundamental, and Frank”, and explains that he thanked Mr. Trump for America’s support.

This has been the first time that Mr. Trump and Mr. Zellinski have been spoken since then The catastrophic oval office meeting last monthDuring which Mr. Trump and Vice President JD Vance said that Mr. Zellinski showed insufficient gratitude for America’s support.

The statement issued by Michael Waltz, National Security Adviser, and Marco Rubio, Foreign Minister, suggested for the first time that Mr. Trump is interested in controlling the electric and nuclear power sites in Ukraine.

Mr. Trump told Mr. Zelinski that the United States “can be very useful in managing these plants through their electrical experience and interest,” adding that “the American ownership of these plants will be the best protection for this infrastructure and support for Ukrainian energy infrastructure.”
