Celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of Microsoft in Washington were disrupted on March 4 by the protesters supporting the Palestinians, including two employees who have had resigned since then, and called for the involvement of the alleged technology giant in Israeli military operations.
Among them was Vania Agrouwal, a software engineer from Microsoft’s Amnesty International Department, who seized the stage in the work of dramatic opposition. The Tamkeen Violence Company in Gaza accused, publicly resigned during the event, and described Microsoft as a “digital weapons factory” before leaving the hall.
Agrawal condemned the alleged Microsoft deal, which is worth $ 133 million with the Israeli Ministry of Defense, claiming that AI and Azure Cloud services were supporting military operations actively against the Palestinians.
“The Microsoft Cloud and AI, the Israeli army, managed to be more deadly and destroyed in Gaza,” she wrote in an email at the company level shortly after confronting the CEO on the stage. “It cannot be denied that Microsoft Azure Cloud and the developments of artificial intelligence constitute the technological spine of automatic apartheid and genocide in Israel.”
She also cited reports that link Microsoft Technologies to Israel’s infrastructure and war control, adding, “Our work forces have this genocide.”
Agrawal, who joined Microsoft in September 2023 after more than three years in Amazon, was working in the artificial intelligence section. Its protest is the latest flash point in an increasing wave of opposition among employees. In February, five employees were removed from a meeting with CEO Satia Nadella after he was suspended on similar concerns.
Microsoft has not yet publicly responded to either accusations or resignation. The celebration of the anniversary, which focused on the company’s progress in artificial and productive intelligence, saw that its novel suddenly turned by the protest. After removing AGRAWAL, Bill Gates resumed the program without treating the accident.
