A uniformed police officer was seen riding as a pillion passenger on a two-wheeler, without the rider wearing a helmet. The bike bearing a ‘Police’ sticker was seen on the streets of Mumbai.

A passenger who witnessed the accident took a photo of the scene, which also showed the car’s number plate, “MH47 AE5165”, and shared it online.

The photo of the policeman riding in the back seat with a helmetless motorcyclist was shared on Reddit by a user named Prasad. The post highlighted the violation of traffic rules by the policeman.

“No helmet, triple seat, the police are called Activa and the police wear uniforms. What is the fine or charge? Is this legal for police only?” the Reddit post asked.

A photo of a policeman riding a two-wheeler with a passenger without a helmet sparked outrage online, with many questioning the police officer’s disregard for traffic rules.

Netizens reacted to the Reddit post and encouraged the user to share the image on X, tagging the Mumbai Police to take action.

“What do you mean by rules? Rules are for normal people like us,” one user commented sarcastically. Another commented: “Absolute power is the ink pass. Ironic that they are taking pictures to fine others while cycling themselves and putting others at risk.”

Fines under the MV Law:

According to the official website of the Maharashtra government, motorists who violate traffic rules face fines. A “two-wheeler driver who engages in three-wheeler riding” faces a fine of Rs. 100 for the first violation and Rs. 300 for subsequent violations. The compounding fee under Section 200 of the Motor Vehicles Act is Rs. 200.

Additionally, failure to wear a helmet attracts a fine of Rs. 100 for the first violation and Rs. 300 for subsequent violations. The compound fee for this offense is Rs. 500.
