On Wednesday, the President announced plans for new definitions on goods imported from foreign countries. The White House said that new measures include 10 % foundation tax on foreign imports and “higher individual mutual” definitions on certain countries.
Lyan Bouzarjar, Director of Operations at Bouzarjar, said, Fox Business’ Lydia Hu Friday that the definitions “threw us a lifeline” in the troubled local shrimp industry.

“The American local shrimp industry was on a decades -decades ‘decades’ path as a direct result of the unfair trade in the water farming industry abroad to grow shrimp abroad,” said Bouzarjar. “These customs duties threw the lifeline that we need in the hope to live to fight on another day in our industry in this country.”
The local shrimp industry in the Gulf and South Atlantic witnessed the value of the shrimp that it holds greatly, with Fisheries Noaa Data that shows that it went from $ 522 million in 2021 to $ 269 million in 2023, according to the Southern Shrimp Alliance, a commercial organization representing shrimp fishermen, treatments and other stakeholders of eight states.

HU reported that shrimp believe that the customs tariff will help settle the stadium with the industry of foreign shrimp.
Imports constitute 94 % of the shrimp consumed in the United States, with countries such as India, Ecuador, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Argentina among the higher sources of imported shrimp, according to the Southern Alliance of Shrimp.
The organization said that forced subsidies, employment and other factors made the production of shrimp in foreign countries cheaper, which resulted in the American shrimp industry.

The CEO of Southern Shrimp at the shrimp alliance, John Williams, said in a statement on Wednesday that the organization is “grateful to the Trump administration’s actions”, saying that the definitions will maintain American jobs, food security and our commitment to moral production.
The new import tariff is scheduled to enter into force soon, as the White House said that the 10 % foundation tax will be hit on April 5 and the mutual tariff is expected on April 9.
