A fire broke out inside a moving Lamborghini on the coastal road in Mumbai on Wednesday evening, officials said. No injuries were reported in the accident. The fire occurred at around 10:20 p.m., and a fire truck was dispatched to the site.
A fire official said that the fire was extinguished within 45 minutes. Details were not immediately available about the number of passengers in the orange luxury car and the cause of the fire.
A video clip shared by Gautam Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director of Raymond Group, showed fire blazing in the car’s cabin and a man trying to extinguish it. Singhania, who is also a car enthusiast, expressed concerns about the company’s safety standards.
He tweeted, “I saw a Lamborghini catch fire on the coastal road in Mumbai. Such incidents raise serious concerns about the reliability and safety standards of Lamborghini. For the price and reputation, one would expect uncompromising quality, not potential risks.”
One user commented that he also saw the fire, and that the car was buzzing 45 minutes after the fire brigade put out the fire. Another user blamed roadside repairs and said that most people who buy expensive cars cannot maintain them as per requirements.
“Such incidents may be rare but they are very serious. Customer confidence is taking a hit. Car manufacturers must ensure uncompromising quality including safety aspects from the design stage onwards,” said another user.
Singhania had also earlier tweeted about recalling the Lamborghini due to a complete electrical failure. He shared a photo of the car being towed and asked: “Are these cars reliable?”
Another video clip shows flames in the cabin of a Lamborghini with a Gujarat registration number, and a man trying to extinguish them.
