The incident occurred on the last ball of the 41st over of India’s innings bowled by Scott Boland. Jaiswal played a shot to mid-on and immediately called for a quick single. However, Kohli was so focused on tracking the ball, he did not notice the fielder’s position and hesitated, reacting belatedly to Jaiswal’s call.
This led to both Indian batsmen finding themselves stranded on the pitch. Pat Cummins, stationed at the halfway line, acted quickly. He got the ball and struck straight at the striker’s end but narrowly missed. However, Alex Carey backed up perfectly when he collected the ball and hit the bails to complete the run-out.
Jaiswal, who was in fine form, was left walking back to the pavilion after a fine knock of 82 runs, as Kohli was close to his crease and returned to point as soon as he saw the chance run out. The mix-up marked the turning point in India’s innings, leading to a batting collapse in the ongoing Boxing Day Test at the MCG.

Kaif said there was no running as Jaiswal stepped up, bowled and got the first over. The former Indian cricketer pointed out that the youngster had already taken a few steps forward and believed that he would reach the top, so he left his crease. He openly blamed Yashasvi for losing his wicket for a risky single.
Mohammad Kaif said in a video clip he posted on his handle X: “I thought Yashavi forgot that the ball moved very quickly and went into Cummins’ hand. He hit the ball down the middle and it arrived very quickly in Fielder’s hands. Although Fielder was behind and was about 25 yards away. But it came so fast that there was no time to react.
