Ukraine may have to give up land for peace

The mayor of Kiev, Vitaly Klitschko, told BBC that Ukraine may have to give up the land as part of a peace agreement with Russia, amid increasing pressure from President Donald Trump to accept regional privileges.

“One of the scenarios is … giving up land. It is not justice. But for peace, temporary peace, it may be a temporary solution,” he said in response to BBC’s questions.

But the 53 -year -old boxing champion stressed that the Ukrainian people “will never accept the occupation” by Russia.

He was speaking hours after the killing of a Russian missile and Russian gun on Kiev, and injured more than 80.

It was one of the bloody Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital for months.

Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a wide -ranging invasion of Ukraine in 2022, and Moscow is currently controlling about 20 % of Ukrainian lands.

Klitschko is now one of the largest Ukrainian politicians who publicly indicates that his country may have to give up land, albeit temporary.

The mayor of Kyiv and Zelinski is political opponents. The mayor has repeatedly accused the president and his team of trying to undermine his authority.

Speaking to the BBC Radio 4 program today from his office in Central Kiev on Thursday, Klitschko indicated that he is “responsible for the capital of Ukraine”, describing it as the “heart” of the war -torn country.

He said that President Voludmir Zelinski may have to take a “painful solution” to achieve peace.

When asked if Zelinski was discussing any details about a possible settlement, Klitschko replied frankly: “No.”

“President Zelinski does (he himself). It is not my job,” he added.

Referring to a very general movement between Zelensky and Trump in the White House in February, the mayor suggested that the main issues between senior politicians will be better discussed “without video cameras.”

Earlier this week, Trump Zelinski was accused of harming peace negotiations, after the Ukrainian leader again excluded the recognition of Russian control of the Crimea, the Ukrainian southern peninsula that Moscow included illegally in 2014.

Trump said that the Crimea was “lost years ago” and was currently “not until a discussion point.”

But Zelinski referred to the “Crimea Declaration” for the year 2018 by the then Mike Bombo Ministry, saying that the United States “refuses to try to include Russia.”

In recent weeks, Ukraine and its European allies have expressed a warning about what many seen on the continent as Trump’s rise in relations with Russia Vladimir Putin.

As the conversations rise, Russian strikes on Ukraine continued.

On Thursday, an attack on Kyiv was killed by 12 people and wounded dozens. In a school that was struck, the British Broadcasting Corporation witnessed the body of a student who was removed from the debris, while classmates cried quietly nearly.

A teacher at the school talked about her harm and added that she believes that Russia will not stop its aggression if Ukraine abandoned the Crimea.

She said: “Those who believe that Putin will stop if he gets the Crimea, and do not know who the Russians are, it will not stop.”

She said that Zelinski expresses the opinion “We are all and supported.”

Another woman helped rescue workers carry out 10 people, five of whom died and the rest were more important.

“As of now, I think it is better to be far from here because there is nothing good waiting for us here,” she said, adding “It will not be a good solution” for Ukraine.
