On Thursday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order to increase the local production of critical minerals, including uranium, copper, potash, gold and possibly coal.
A White House official said Trump faced federal agencies to collect the lists of suspended metal projects and accelerate their review in coordination with the National Council for Energy’s Energy, led by Interior Minister Doug Burgum.
The official said that the president ordered Burgum to give priority to producing critical minerals on federal lands for other activities. BurGum can determine whether other minerals, such as coal, are covered with it, according to the official.
The official said Trump will use the defense production law to increase mineral production. President Joe Biden also summoned to promote critical metal production in 2022.
The official said that the International Finance Foundation for the United States of America will fund new production projects by allocating critical metals allocated in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense.
The United States imported 46 % of copper and 91 % of the potash in 2023, according to the American geological survey. Potash is a major fertilizer used in agriculture. The US nuclear plants in the United States imported 99 % of the uranium concentration used to make the reactor fuel in 2023, according to energy information management.
