Trump sees “good signals” on Russia-Ukraine that stop shooting. Zelensky no.

President Trump said on Thursday that he saw “good signals” towards the completion of the 30 -day ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine, as it was expected that US officials in Moscow would meet with President Vladimir F. Putin from Russia.

These statements, which were delivered in the Oval Office during its meeting with the Secretary -General of NATO Mark Roti, came as Mr. Putin explained that he was not in a hurry to the ceasefire, and set many conditions before he was able to agree to the truce.

“This does not mean anything until we hear what is the end result, but they have very dangerous discussions with President Putin and others, and we hope that they all want to end this nightmare,” said Mr. Trump about the meetings in which his envoy in the Middle East, Steve Whitchov. “It is a nightmare. It is a terrible thing.”

Mr. Trump said he hoped to speak to Mr. Putin soon. He also said that the United States discussed with Ukraine possible concessions as part of the peace agreement.

“We have discussed with Ukraine the land and land lands that will be kept and lost, and all other elements of a final agreement,” said Mr. Trump.

He added: “Many details of the final agreement have been discussed.”

President Voludmir Zelinsky of Ukraine hit a pessimistic tone in his evening speech in front of the Ukrainians on Thursday. He said that Mr. Putin’s response to the ceasefire proposal was “very predictable.” He said that Mr. Putin has set a lot of prior conditions “to the point that nothing will succeed at all, or that he will not succeed for as long as possible.”

Despite the years of Mr. Trump from NATO complaints, an organization that has over and over again, followed the meeting with the former Dutch Prime Minister, as the two leaders discussed areas of cooperation.

Mr. Trump praised Mr. Root to “do a great job” while Mr. Root praised Mr. Trump, and he was attributed to him, as the organization stimulated by pushing countries to contribute more military spending.

“I really want to work with you in the period before the Hague Summit to ensure that we will get the NATO that is really activated under your leadership, and we get there,” said Mr. Roti.

Many American presidents have complained that other European allies do not spend enough on defense, and instead depend on American protection, but Mr. Trump has escalated the speech to a new level, indicating that the United States may not fulfill its mutual defensive commitment to countries that have not contributed enough.

“We have to do that,” he said. “We really need national security.”

Mr. Root has corrected the issue of the United States that takes Greenland, saying he did not want to “withdraw NATO to that.” Instead, it was superior to the agreement with Mr. Trump that Russia and China are threats to the Arctic.
