Houthi spokesman in Yemen, Mohammed Abdel Salam, said that the country will continue to defend itself after several US strikes targeted facilities in the capital, Sanaa, on Tuesday.

The US military said it carried out strikes against Houthi targets in Sanaa and coastal sites in Yemen on Monday and Tuesday.

The US military’s Central Command said on December 30 and 31, US Navy ships and aircraft targeted a Houthi command and control facility and facilities for the production and storage of advanced conventional weapons, including missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles. Posted on X, formerly Twitter.

It added that the facilities that were bombed were used in attacks against US Navy warships and commercial ships in the southern Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. It added that US Navy and Air Force aircraft also destroyed a Houthi coastal radar site, seven cruise missiles and a drone over the Red Sea.

The Iran-backed armed group in Yemen has been attacking commercial ships in the Red Sea for more than a year in an attempt to impose a naval blockade on Israel, saying it is acting in solidarity with the Palestinians in Israel’s year-long war in Gaza.

The Houthi media office said on Tuesday that 10 air strikes hit the May 22 facility in the Al-Thawriyah District, north of Sanaa, and two others hit the Al-Aradi facility, which houses the Houthi Ministry of Defense, in central Sanaa.

Mohammed Abdel Salam, the Houthis’ chief negotiator and official spokesman, described the strikes as a “flagrant violation of the sovereignty of an independent state.”
