Russia’s investigation committee said that a Russian military officer was killed when a car exploded on Friday in the town of Balikha, eastern Moscow directly.
The officer in the name of Yaroslav Moskalik, the deputy head of the main operations of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, said that it had opened a criminal case in the accident.
“According to the available data, the explosion occurred as a result of the bombing of a homemade explosive device full of destructive elements,” the investigation committee said in a statement.
The statement did not say who might be behind the accident. Several high -level Russian military figures have been assassinated since the beginning of the war in Ukraine in 2022.
The bombing came amid a batch to end the war, and now in its fourth year, with the Trump administration’s envoy Steve Witkev in Moscow, where he was expected to meet on Friday with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Russian media, which has sources in Russian law enforcement agencies, said the bomb in a parked car was detonated remotely when the officer – who lived locally – walked in the past.
Izvestia has published video clips showing someone approaching a group of parked cars outside a residential complex and an explosion sent parts of a vehicle flying in the air.
Commercial newspaper said that the second person was also killed.
