In 2024, Brazil recorded a 70 percent increase on an annual basis in cases of discrimination and attacks on religious practices, according to the Ministry of Human Rights. The main victims are African religions, such as Umbanda and Candomblé. Their followers are threatened and destroyed and looted. This intolerance is fueled by evangelical Christian branches: the churches of Pentecost and the Newstosal, whose numbers have increased in Brazil in recent years.
