The Internet has been on fire ever since Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Chairman SN Subrahmanyan’s suggestion of a 90-hour work week at an internal meeting with employees went viral. Veteran investor Vijay Kedia also discussed the controversy surrounding the 90-hour work week.

According to Kedia, signing employees to 90-hour work weeks can be very beneficial. Wait what? Kedia said in a sarcastic post on X (formerly Twitter) that it would be useful for presidents. He also mentioned in his post that his boss will be able to buy another Lamborghini next year if the employees continue to work this hard.

“A touching moment in the office today: Our boss just brought home a Lamborghini. We gathered to congratulate him, and we were truly inspired by his words: “Thank you for all this achievement. Without you, this wouldn’t have been possible. Your continuous efforts 90 hours a week made this Lamborghini a reality, today, I promise you all…. If you keep working this hard, I will buy another one next year!’ “

L&T CEO Subrahmanyan recently courted controversy after his opinion on work-life balance (or lack thereof) went viral on social media. The L&T boss suggested that employees work 90 hours a week and even advised them to work on Sundays.

He also wondered what the staff did at home. “What do you do while sitting at home? How long can you stare at your wife? How long can wives stare at their husbands? Go to the office and start working.”

Not just Vijay Kedia, Subramanian has also come under fire from the likes of Shaadi.com founder and Shark Tank India judge Anupam Mittal and also gave a cheeky response to the L&T chief’s outrageous suggestion.

“But sir, if husband and wife do not look out for each other, how will we remain the most populous country in the world?” Mittal wrote on X.

While speaking at the Fixit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2025, industry giant Anand Mahindra was a strong advocate of quality of work over quantity of work. “You can change the world in 10 hours,” he said. Mahindra said productivity and innovation come from efficient use of time rather than longer working hours.
