OnePlus will launch its new flagship series OnePlus 13on January 7, 2025. It’s becoming increasingly difficult for smartphone makers to differentiate or push the boundaries, but OnePlus is at least trying. Its new phone series will have IP68 and IP69 ratings.

IP68 certification means the device has protection against immersion and dust, the usual stuff, but an IP69 rating takes water resistance a step further, and promises the device can withstand high-pressure water jets – for all those high-pressure jet moments. The OnePlus 13 could be the first flagship smartphone to receive certification.

The OnePlus 13 will have three colours: Arctic Dawn, Black Eclipse and Midnight Ocean, with the latter also being the first phone to use vegan microfiber leather. The Arctic Dawn edition has a new glass coating that resists finger smudges, which is apparently a first in the industry, according to OnePlus.

The new hard drive is the first Seagate hard drive to use heat-assisted magnetic recording. HAMR refers to a magnetic storage process in which local heat is applied to the disc material during writing, allowing for smaller areas and more space per platter. These and other advances could one day pave the way for a 50TB hard drive.
