The liberal GTA relationships with the Chinese consulate raises new interests

New questions emerged about relations between a federal liberal candidate running in Marcham-Unionville and the Chinese consulate in Toronto, including his presentation of appreciation for a general consul and appears to be a greeting of the Communist flag in an event celebrating the establishment of the People’s Republic of China.

Cheyuk Kuan, co -chair of the Toronto Democracy Association in China, said he had many concerns about Yuen’s relations with the Chinese consulate and behavior in PRC events.

Kwan said that although it is not wrong to build the departed foreign consul, it is a national issue that Federal Canadian officials usually deal with.

“This is the national policy. This is not something to be done by a local police officer. This is China that exceeded its limits. The evidence is. We have left the guess of the motivation.”

Kwan added: “You see the Chinese Canadian police line to support him. For me, this is beyond pale and completely appropriate.” “The problem is that these people do not see any problem doing this. It is a usual work.”

“What we see is that this is not a work as usual. This is a repressive system. You are heading to another person.”

“There is a source of security anxiety, but there is not much that we can do to prevent people from filling hobbies with the consulate,” said Kwan.

Former CSIS Dan Stanton said he was not worried.

“It is unlikely that there is anything evil or national security related to this public recognition of a diplomat. Consul Generals are doing a good job in society. Most of them have no intelligence role,” Stanton said.

“It is possible that TPS officers (in two events of events pictures) have family links with Hong Kong, so this plays well in the Chinese media,” Stanton added.

During the period and pictures of Yuen, however, Amnesty International Publish a detailed report This expressed his concerns about PRC activities inside and outside the country in 2015 and 2016.

Amnesty said that PRC formulated and enacted a series of new “national security laws” that have provided serious human rights threats.

Kwan added that a TPS officer like Yuen was not needed to travel to Beijing to attend a military parade as well. He also asked about who paid the price of Yuen’s trip and why.

Kwan also noticed that a Canadian police officer should not salute a repressive system.

Stephanie Sayer, a spokeswoman for the Toronto Police Company Stephanie Sayer, rejected the answer to UNEN, and did not answer questions about who paid for his trip to the military parade in 2015 or who agreed to it, and instead of referring to inquiries to Yuen.

Yoen did not answer the Global News question about who paid his travel and accommodations for the Beijing 2015 trip.

Media reports from the past few years indicate that raising the Chinese flag and aviation in Toronto has become an increasingly controversial issue in Ontario, where the Chinese government has faced increasing allegations of foreign interference in the Canadian elections.
