A local hospital says that at least 29 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli air strike on a multi -storey residential building in the east of Gaza City.

The Hamas Civil Defense Agency said that the warplanes targeted the area near the Al -Hawash Mosque in the Shijaya neighborhood on Tuesday morning.

She said that eight children were among the dead, more than 60 people were wounded, and that the rescuers were still searching for twenty others under the rubble.

The Israeli army said it struck “senior terrorists” in charge of planning and carrying out attacks in the area.

He added that many steps were taken to reduce harm to civilians, including the use of “fine weapons”.

The army also accused Hamas of violating international law by intentionally using civilian population as human shields.

A video clip of Shejaiya showed the bodies of young children covered with dust that are transported away from the rubble by their relatives and rescue workers.

Ayoub Selim, 26, told Agence France -Presse news agency that the area surrounding the residential building that struck it on Tuesday morning “is crowded with tents, displaced materials and homes.”

He said he was hit by “multiple missiles” and that “fragments flew in all directions.”

“Dust and tremendous destruction in the entire place, we were unable to see anything, just screaming and people of the people,” he added. “It is really a horrific massacre.”

Hamas also said that the Israeli army “committed a bloody massacre.”

Thousands of residents of Shijaya fled last week after the Israeli army ordered the evacuation of the neighborhood, saying it was working hard to destroy the “terrorist infrastructure.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the Hamas -run Gaza Ministry of Health said that at least 33 people were killed in Israeli attacks over the past 24 hours.

This total has brought the amount of the dead since Israel resumed its air campaign and the land against Hamas on March 18 to 1482.

Other 390,000 people have been displaced over the past three weeks, with two -thirds of the lands now appointed by the Israeli army as “non -movement” areas or placed under eviction orders, according to the United Nations.

The United Nations has also warned that food, medicine and fuel supplies have dried up because Israel prevented any shipments of humanitarian aid for a month to pressure Hamas.

On Tuesday, Secretary -General Antonio Guterres condemned the Israeli blockade, saying that he had violated international law and opened “horror gates.”

“Gaza is a field of killing and the civilians in the endless death link.”

The Israeli Foreign Ministry refused to criticize Guterres, saying that he “did not let the facts hinder the way when spreading slander against Israel.”

“There is no shortage of humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip – more than 25,000 auxiliary trucks in the Gaza Strip have entered 42 days of the ceasefire. Hamas used this aid to rebuild its war machine,” said Urin Maronstein.

On Monday, the heads of the United Nations humanitarian agencies described Israel’s assertion that there is enough food for the 2.1 million Gaza population as “far from reality on the ground.”

They called for the protection of civilians, to facilitate the delivery of aid, the release of the hostages that Hamas maintains, and the renewal of the ceasefire.

The mediators continue to try to revive the ceasefire, which began on January 19 and witnessed the release of Hamas 33 Israeli hostages – eight of whom were killed – and five Thai hostages in exchange for about 1900 Palestinian prisoners and a rise in humanitarian aid entering Gaza.

Israel said it had resumed its attack due to Hamas’s refusal to accept a proposal to extend the first stage of the ceasefire deal and issue more of 59 hostages that still keep it, and it is believed that up to 24 of them are alive.

Hamas accused Israel of violating the original agreement, which will be a second stage where all the remaining hostages will be handed over and the war will be brought to a permanent end.

The Israeli army launched a campaign to destroy Hamas in response to an unprecedented attack across the border on October 7, 2023, where about 1,200 people were killed and 251 grooves were taken.

More than 50,840 people have been killed in Gaza since then, according to the Ministry of Health in the region.
