The Minister of Defense in Germany has warned Ukraine against agreeing to a deal that involves sweeping regional concessions in exchange for a ceasefire with Russia.

Boris Peporius said that Ukraine “should not go to the last proposal from the American president,” who said it would be a “surrender.”

“Most of the main points (the deal) are agreed,” said US President Donald Trump this week. Reports indicate that Ukraine can be asked to abandon large parts of the lands that Russia seized, including the Crimea.

Ukrainian President Folodimir Zelinski has repeatedly rejected regional concessions, saying that land issues can be discussed as soon as the ceasefire agreement.

On Sunday, Pistorius told German public broadcaster, Ada, that Kiev knew that he might have to separate from some lands to secure a ceasefire.

“But they will certainly not go large – or they should not go large – as the last proposal from the American president,” he said.

“A year ago, Ukraine could have obtained what was included in this proposal, which is closer to surrender. I cannot distinguish any added value.”

BBC has not seen the fine details of the latest US plan. On Friday, Reuters reported that it had seen proposals from the United States, which included the American legal acceptance of the illegal annexation of Russia of the Crimea Peninsula and the actual recognition of Russian control over other occupied areas, including Luhansk in the east of the country.

Reuters says it has also seen a counter -show from Europe and Ukraine, which says that the parties will only discuss what is happening to the occupied Ukrainian region as soon as they enter the ceasefire.

The American plan also excludes Ukraine’s membership in the NATO military alliance and believes that a “alliance of those wishing” is willing to “provide a security guarantee once a ceasefire without involving the United States.

Meanwhile, the Europeans want the United States to provide “strong” guarantees in the form of a commitment similar to NATO of iron to reach Ukraine’s assistance if it was attacked.

According to what the United States proposes control of the Zaporizhzia nuclear plant – which is currently occupied by Russia – which will then provide electricity to Russia and Ukraine. The anti -plot does not indicate that the Russian authority is given.

In an interview with Time Magazine this week, Trump again blamed Kiev for the start of the war, noting her ambitions to join NATO.

The American president also told the time: “The Crimea will remain with Russia.”

On Sunday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged Russia and Ukraine to move forward to secure a peace agreement.

“This should happen soon,” Rubio told NBC. “We cannot continue to devote time and resources for this effort if not.”

The United States has recently warned that it will move away from negotiations if no progress is made.

The White House described the meeting as a “very productive” while the Ukrainian president said it was “the possibility to become historical.”

Russia launched a large -scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, and Moscow is currently controlling nearly 20 % of Ukrainian lands.
