Imran Khan, the former Pakistan Prime Minister, was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for Human Rights and Democracy. This announcement was announced by members of the Pakistani World Alliance (PWA), a support group founded in December, in cooperation with the Norweg Sentrum.

“We are pleased to announce on behalf of Partiet Sentrum that in an alliance with a person who has the right to nomination, Imran Khan, former Pakistan Prime Minister, nominated the Nobel Peace Prize for his work with human rights and democracy in Pakistan,” Partiet Sentrum announced on the social media platform x.

This represents the nomination of Khan II for the Nobel Peace Prize. He was previously considered in 2019, where he admitted his efforts to enhance peace in South Asia. The Nobel Peace Prize nomination process includes hundreds of nominations that were reviewed annually by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. The final selection process is a comprehensive exam for eight months to determine the recipient.

Imran Khan, 72, is not just a former leader, but also the founder of the main opposition party in Pakistan, Pakistan Tweik-Einsaf. Despite his political struggles, Khan continued to be an important figure in calling for democratic values in Pakistan. His candidacy by PWA and Partiet Sentrum emphasizes his permanent influence and his commitment to these reasons.

Currently, Khan is a prison sentence, after being imprisoned since August 2023. In January, he has received a 14 -year prison sentence related to the claims of misuse of power and corruption. This issue represents its fourth main conviction. Despite these legal challenges, Khan maintains his innocence, claiming that the charges against him are politically driven.

Three of Khan’s previous convictions, which involve the sale of state gifts, the leakage of state secrets, the illegal marriage, or their suspension by the courts. He was removed from the authority after a vote of lack of confidence in April 2022. Khan asserts that legal measures against him are part of a broader political strategy to undermine his influence.

The Nobel Peace Prize nomination places Khan in a unique position, which shows the division between his legal suspects and his role as an international human rights defender. His supporters argue that this recognition can shed light on the political nature of his convictions and emphasize his contributions to democracy.

The announcement of Khan’s nomination has sparked widespread attention and discussions. With the Nobel Committee’s suspended decision, it remains the result of this nomination. However, the nomination of Imran Khan for the Nobel Peace Prize is a testimony to his constant influence and his commitment to human rights.
