Beijing is the second highest alert in the storm where strong winds hit the capital area.

Hundreds of flights were canceled and public parks were closed in Beijing, as the strong winds led by a cold vortex of neighboring Mongolia fell hundreds of trees and crushed cars across the Chinese capital.

Beijing issued the second highest alert to the highest level on Saturday, the first time in a decade, and warned of 22 million people against avoiding unnecessary travel as winds can break the April records dating back to 1951.

Two vast international airports in the city, Beijing Capital and Dyingg, canceled 693 flights on Saturday afternoon, with warnings of violent weather on its way, especially in the north of the country and along the coastal areas.

More flights and trains have also been canceled, as some parts of the country recorded its strongest wind in more than 75 years, as it recorded a height of 148 km/h (92 miles per hour). The wind brought late snowfall in the inner Mongolia and stones in southern China.

In Beijing, the Universal Studios Park was forced to close the operations at least until Sunday, while historical sites such as the forbidden city of Beijing, the summer palace and the sky temple were closed.

Football matches and other external events were also suspended.

The display of half a marathon was also canceled on Sunday, which includes human robots competing with humans in an attempt to present technological developments in China.

Winds dominate chats on social media, as many people express their concern about food delivery workers who respect conditions.

“In the weather like this, we can choose not to seek delivery – it’s very difficult for them,” wrote a Weibo user.

CCTV broadcaster CCTV said the sandstorms that extend over the course of the inner Mongolia to the Yangti River area were traveling in eight other provinces.

Sand storms were also expected to affect Shanghai from Saturday afternoon until Sunday morning.

The strong winds and sandstorms are generated in the dry north in China, where the deserts of Gobi and Taklamakan are sought by herbal lands, mountains and forests.

China has fought a long battle for decades to reduce the effect of sand storms, especially in Beijing, which is located on the edge of an arid area, and where these storms can reduce visibility to scratch, send sand to buildings and clothes and cause a severe decrease in the eyes, nose and ears.
