German Chancellor Olaf Scholls said on Sunday that the European Union will firmly respond to the definitions announced by US President Donald Trump, but stressed that the bloc was also open to the settlement.
“It is clear that, as a European Union … it will interact clearly and decide with the policy of the US tariff,” said Schools.
He said that the bloc “has always been ready at all times to work for settlement and cooperation.”
“I say to the United States: Europe’s goal is still cooperation. But if the United States does not leave any choice, as with the tariffs on steel and aluminum, we will respond as a unified European Union.”
Trump has announced a comprehensive tariff for the United States’ allies and opponents, including a 25 percent tax on car imports that start next week.
A 25 percent American tariff entered steel and aluminum from all over the world in mid -March, with the start of the European Union anti -Union measures in April.
As the main manufacturer of cars and its source, Germany could reach a special intensity by tariffing cars and they were the subject of a visit to Washington by Finance Minister Joerg Kukies last week.
Germany pledged a difficult response to the definitions, as a government spokesman insisted that “nothing outside the table.”
However, Italian Prime Minister Giojia Miloni struck a more reconciliation tone on Saturday, and called for the “logical” approach to the escalating conflict.
European Union President Ursula von der Layen said previously that she was “deeper” on his regret for the tariff of American cars and the European Union will continue to search for negotiation solutions.
Schools also insisted on Sunday that Canada was an independent country, as it responded to the repeated comments by Trump that it should become the 51st American state.
“Canada is a proud and independent nation, Canada has friends all over the world, especially here in Germany and Europe,” said at the Hanover Trading Exhibition.
Canada is a private guest at this event, which officially opens on Monday.
