A hardware hacker has designed the most original model for turning a PSP into a console. Better yet, you can use it to boot older PSP UMDs. The $275 PS Placeable is a 3D-printed case that looks like the original PlayStation 2. It even includes an actual and modified PSP. It fits well with the retro PlayStation aesthetic, and serves as a reminder that Sony used to have great handheld hardware.

The PS Placeable gives access to an HDMI port to connect to your TV and opens up the option to play the PSP’s native UMDs while allowing you to pair a Bluetooth controller. This may be your best bet to play Locoroco On the big screen using a PS4 or PS5 controller. There’s a slot that opens up the top that allows you to insert your old UMDs, if, like me, you still have some of those old plastic-covered ones.

You can build one yourself, of course, and Retro Mod Works, maker of the hardware hacking tool, provides Github repositories for Both STLs and Code base To connect via Bluetooth. Best of all, it’s a non-destructive modification and can be reversed if you so choose. Works with 2K and 3K PSP (or PSP-2000 or PSP-3000). It will not work with the first version, 1K PSP. You can – technically – pair your PSP to a monitor or TV, but then you’ll have a hard time controlling the screen using the tethered mobile device.

You can see it in action in video From the Macho Nacho YouTube channel. Retro Mod Works — retro game Streamer whose name is Dan – he said he worked with the programmer on the project, stephen cooper, To design the console so that he could play the games he owned without resorting to software emulation. He also wanted to design something simple enough that it might interest non-modders in the cool work of hardware hacking.

attic Store pageRetro Mod Works said it received more than 100 orders in less than 24 hours. “This is the entire inventory of broken PSPs I’ve been collecting away over the past year for this project,” they wrote. The console mod said they are focusing on filling existing orders before handling new ones. There is a form that the mod can communicate with when there is space to modify your PSP. If you submit your own mobile device, the total cost for the PS Placeable is $185.

The Switch add-on station lets you replace the UMD drive with a PCB to emulate PSP games on the big screen or take it with you on the go with the original controls and hardware. Replacing the Bluetooth board also allows you to connect the controller. Bluetooth PSP mod kits cost $40, while the printed case costs $15, and no PCBs or electronics are included.

Retro Mod Works has gone a step further and included several guides on purchasing the correct parts and putting everything together from their website. The other aspect of the design is that you may also want to pair the device with a device Classy. The kit doesn’t come with one, so depending on the use case, you may want to consider those made by Retro Tink or Morph 4K.

The design of PS Placeable is much less dense than that of modders who have turned consoles into portable devices, like Modified Placeable A screen above the original Xbox console. It also shows how much gamers want a more portable PlayStation. Modifiers previously converted the PlayStation 5 to a laptop-sized device. Last month, Sony finally added its game streaming service to PlayStation Portal remote player.

Both the PSP and PlayStation Vita still have their fans. The Vita is often cited as the best handheld console of its time, but it did not receive the same amount of support that Nintendo did for its 3DS. Sony is reportedly developing a new portable PlayStation to compete with the Steam Deck and other portable PCs, but it could take years. The interest in PS Placeable is just more proof that people love their Sony portables. Now Sony has to acknowledge this with new devices.
