Under the pressure from the Supreme Court in Israel to improve the conditions in a notorious facility to treat the Palestinians who were seized in Gaza, the army transported hundreds of detainees to the newly open camps.

But the violations in these camps were equally bad, according to Israeli human rights organizations, who conducted an interview with dozens of current and former detainees and are now asking the court itself to force the army to repair the problem once and forever.

Rights groups say that what the detainees’ testimonies show, is that instead of correcting alleged violations against the Palestinians who were detained without charge or trial – including beating, excessive hands, poor diet and health care – the Israeli army turned into the place where it happens.

“What we have seen is the corrosion of the basic standards of humanitarian detention,” said Hamukid’s director Jessica Montel,

In response to a question about a response, the army said it is compatible with international law and “fully rejects allegations related to the methodological abuse of detainees.”

The sprawling Offer camp and the smaller Anatot camp, which was built in the West Bank, was supposed to replace the problems documented in the detention center in the Negev desert called Sde Teiman. This site was aimed at maintaining temporarily and treating the militants who were captured during October 7, 2023, an attack on Israel. But it turned into a long -term detention center for the mobilization of brutal Palestinians in Gaza, often without being charged.

The detainees say to Offer and Anatot that the circumstances were not better, according to more than 30 years, who were met by lawyers for Hamekid and Doctors for Human Rights-Israel (PHRI). The Associated Press is the first international news organization to present a report on the PhRI certificates.

“They were punishing you for anything,” said Khaled Al -Sir, 32, a surgeon from Gaza, who spent months in the Over camp, who agreed to talk about his experiences. He was released after six months without charge.

The Gaza doctor was released after being detained in the Israeli reservation for more than six months

Dr. Khaled Al Sir was released by the Israeli forces on September 29 after spending more than six months in Israeli prisons. The 32 -year -old surgeon, who works at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis in Gaza, said he was interrogated, insulted and hit only to be issued suddenly last week without any charges.

Al -Sir said that he lost the number of beating from the soldiers after it was renewed in March of last year during a raid in Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis. Al -Sir said: “You will be punished for contacting the eye, for the request of medicine, to look towards the sky.”

Other detainees’ accounts to rights groups are still unknown. Their accounts cannot be confirmed independently, but their certificates – which were submitted separately – were similar.

The Supreme Court gave the army until the end of March to respond to the alleged violations of off.

Leave Sde Teiman

Since the war began, Israel has seized thousands in Gaza, which has been suspected of having ties to Hamas. Thousands were also released, and often after months of detention.

Hundreds of detainees were released during the ceasefire that started in January. But with the recently restarted ground operations in Gaza, arrests continue. The army will not say the number of detainees who hold it.

After the Supreme Court of Israel ordered a better treatment in Sde Teiman, the army said in June it was transporting hundreds of detainees, including 500 transmission to Offer.

Offer was built on an empty piece next to a civil prison of the same name. January satellite images show a walled temple, with 24 mobile homes working as cells.

Anatot, which was built on a military base in a Jewish settlement, has barracks, each with an area of about 50 people, according to Hamekid.

Under the Israeli law, the army can keep Palestinians from Gaza for 45 days without reaching the outside world. In practice, many go for a longer period.

Whenever the detainees met with Hamouk lawyers, they were “violently dragged” into a cell – sometimes barefoot and often blindfold, and their hands and feet remained throughout the meetings.

“I don’t know where I am,” one of the detainees told a lawyer.

The newly liberated Israeli hostages spoke about their harsh conditions in Gaza. Elie Sharbi, who appeared after 15 months of families, told Israel Channel 12 that his kidnappers said that the conditions of the hostages are affected by Israel’s treatment of Palestinian prisoners.

The detainees claim normal multiplication

Al -Sir said he was keeping it with 21 Gaza in a cell of 40 square meters with eight families. He said that some sleep on the ground on the ranks of camping that hole the soldiers so that they could not inflation. The scabies and lice were rampant. He said he only allowed him outside his cell once a week.

The detainees from Offer and Anatot said they were beaten regularly with fists. Some said that they were staying on the handcuffs for several months, including during their sleep and ate – and they were only disposed of when they were allowed to shower once a week.

Ibrahim Salem’s picture went in the prison of Sadi Timan in the desert of Israel in Negif Verus, after leaking it to CNN and spread on social media. Salem says that standing on the fence and its arms is heading in the picture, it was a form of the punishment he carried during his 52 -day detention at the military base that turned into prison.

Three prisoners held in Anatot for lawyers said they were constantly blindfolded. One of the detainees Anatot said that the soldiers woke them every hour during the night and made them stand for half an hour.

In response to AP questions, the army said it was not aware of the allegations that the soldiers awakened the detainees. She said that the detainees had regular arrival to bath and allow them for daily time. She said that overcrowding from time to time means that some of the detainees were forced to sleep on “ranks on the ground.”

The army said that it closed Anatot in early February because it was no longer needed for “short -term prison” when other facilities were full. Sde Teiman, which has been promoted, is still being used.

Nutrition and health care

Alserr said that the worst thing in Upar is medical care. He said that the guards refused to give him antacids in exchange for chronic ulcers.

After 40 days, he felt rupture. In the truck heading to the hospital, the soldiers tied a bag around his head.

“They hit me all the way to the hospital,” he said. “In the hospital, they refused to remove the bag, even when they were treating me.”

The army said that all detainees received appropriate medical examinations and care. “The prolonged restraint during detention,” said it was used only in exceptional cases and took into account the case of each detainee.

Many detainees complained about hunger. They said they received three meals daily from a few slices of white bread with cucumber or tomatoes and sometimes some chocolate or custard.

“It is not human”, which is about 1,000 calories per day – or half of what is necessary.

After the rights groups complained in November, Jouf said that she had seen new lists in Ofer with a greater diversity, including potatoes and falafel – they improve, but they are still insufficient.

The army said that the dietitian agrees to the detainees and that they always have access to water.

A lawyer is punished

Two months after his detention, the Sir conducted a five -minute conference with a judge, who said he would stay in prison in the foreseeable future.

Such sessions are “systematically brief”, according to Nadia Daka, Hamuk’s lawyer. She said that there are no lawyers present and the detainees are not allowed to speak.

After several months, the secret was allowed to meet a lawyer. But he said that he had to kneel in the sun for preconditions.

The detention of the last lawyer of the doctors for human rights was told that he had undergone the same punishment. “All the time, he was threatening to assume his life,” the lawyer wrote on the adherent notes on the certificate.

Since his release in September, the Sir has returned to work in the hospital in Gaza.

He said that memories are still painful, but the care of patients again helps. “I started to forget … to feel myself again as a human being.”
