The military government in Burkina Faso said it had thwarted a “great conspiracy” to topple the leader of the military council, Captain Ibrahim Traore, as the army claimed that the conspirators were headquarters in the neighboring Ivory Coast.

The Minister of Security Mahamadou Sana said the coup attempt led by the current and former soldiers working with “terrorist leaders”. He added that the intention is to attack the presidential palace last week.

SANA said on state television on Monday that the aim of this plan is to “plant the total chaos and put the country under the supervision of an international organization.”

It is the latest demand for several attempts to remove the leader of the Military Council, which seized power in 2022 amid increasing attacks.

Burkina Faso, like her neighbors, was fighting armed jihadist groups, With an estimated 40 % of the country under their control.

Despite the promises made by Captain Traore’s military government to improve security and even search for new security partnerships with Russia, the situation is still in place with repeated attacks by the rebels.

In the last coup attempt, which occurred last week but its details were just released, SANA said that the conspirators tried to use religious and traditional leaders in Burkinaabi to support army officers to support this plan.

He said: “On Wednesday, April 16, the maneuver was supposed to be crowned, on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, in an attack on the leadership of Burkina FASO by a group of soldiers who were recruited by the country’s enemies.”

“All brains are outside the country on Ivory Coast,” added a porph of two former army officers, believed to be behind the plot.

“Sensitive information was transferred to” terrorists “to increase the attacks on the army and civilians and” incitement against the authorities. “

Last week, many military personnel, including two officers, were arrested due to his planning to “destabilize” the government, security sources told news agency.

The Idori authorities have not yet commented on the allegations that they hosted the conspirators, but the Burkinabe Junta team has often blamed its southern neighbor for supporting its opponents in exile.

The last claim comes months after Ogadogo said it had thwarted the “destabilization” plot against the military council last November.

Burkina Faso, along with two other states led by the Military-Mali and Niger, separated from the West Africa Regional Bloc, ECOWAS, to form a new alliance.

They cut relations with the former colonial authority France and allies with Russia instead.
