The Belgian Prince’s attempt to demand the advantages of social security has been rejected above his six -digit royal instead.

Prince Laurent – the younger brother of King Philip – received 388,000 euros (295,850 pounds; $ 376,000) from state funds last year but said that his work authorized him and his family to social security.

He has argued that he was partially working for their own account because of the duties he was carrying out as ownership, in addition to managing an animal’s charity over the past decade.

Laurent, 61, said he was behaving from “principle” instead of money. The court opposed.

“When the immigrant comes here, he records, he has the right to (social security),” he told the Belgian broadcaster RTBF.

“I may also be a migrant, but his family has established the state in place.”

On Monday, a Brussels court rejected Laurent on the basis that the prince could not be considered working for their own or employee.

However, according to the VTM broadcaster, the judge acknowledged that the prince must actually be entitled to obtain a pension – but he said that the gaps in the legislation made this impossible and called for amending the law.

His lawyer, Olivier Rege, told the Belgian newspaper Lu Sur that Laurent’s request was not based on a “whim” and insisted on symbolism, saying that social security “gives him the Belgian law to all the population, from the most deprived of the rich.”

Mr. Rijckaert also said that most of the prince’s allowance spends on his auxiliary salary and various travel expenses.

This means that Laurent leaves about 5,000 euros (4,300 pounds; $ 5500) per month, but there are no advantages of social security, such as the right to demand some medical expenses.

The prince-who has three adults with a British wife, has also expressed his fears about his family’s welfare since the royal allowance was cut when he dies.

Laurent took legal measures against the Belgian state after rejecting his request for social security. A first hearing was held in November 2024.

According to RTBF, the prince and his legal advisor have not yet decided whether he would appeal the court’s decision.
