The BBC speaks to Syrian opposition leader Ahmed Al-Sharaa

Syria’s de facto leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, said that his country is exhausted by the war and does not pose a threat to its neighbors or the West.

Speaking to BBC correspondent Jeremy Bowen in Damascus, Al-Sharaa said sanctions imposed on Syria must be lifted, and his group, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, must be removed from the list of terrorist organisations.

Al-Sharaa led Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and other rebel groups in the attack that toppled the regime of former President Bashar al-Assad less than two weeks ago.
