Target Darts brings technological savvy to the game

If there’s one thing that sucks the fun out of darts, it’s the mandatory calculations you have to do to figure out how well you’re doing. That’s a disease that British manufacturer Target Darts, making their maiden trip to CES, solves with its Omni auto-scoring system, saving your beer-soaked brain.

The Omni is a halo that magnetically attaches to a compatible panel, and is equipped with four 1080p cameras and an LED light bar. When you throw a dart, the system uses computer vision to determine where it ends up on the board.

From there, the results will be displayed on a nearby computer or tablet, and can even be output to a large TV in the vicinity. Better yet, not only will you track your score, you’ll hear a pre-recorded voice telling you how many points you need to score on your next shot, just like you’d see in a professional match.

The Omni has not been released yet, but when it does, players will be able to use it alongside the Virt Camera found on Target Darts. This is a pair of webcams – one facing the board, one facing the player – that enable darts fans to play against real people online either with friends, or with similarly ranked strangers.
