The 2024 season started with the greatest Premier League victories. In February, Jake Wardle’s converted try was the difference as Wigan Warriors snatched a dramatic 16-12 win over Penrith Panthers to win the World Club Challenge.

The win saw Wigan crowned Club World Champions for the fifth time and kept the Panthers waiting for their first win in the competition after losing to St Helens at home following a golden point drop from Lewis Dodd a year ago.

“Tonight, off the field and on the field, is the culmination of a lot of hard work and we have to do it over and over again now,” Warriors coach Matt Peat said.

“It’s not just about winning titles, but about packing this place and standing for something.”

It wouldn’t be a season review without it! The Good Friday derby between St Helens and Wigan was presented as it always is in March, with the rival teams separated by eight miles and a large hill approaching toe-to-toe once again.

It was a huge win for St Helens as they ended Wigan Warriors’ 15-game winning streak with a drama-filled 12-4 victory, with Wigan’s Liam Byrne receiving a red for a high shot over Mark Percival.

Liam Byrne was shown red for a high tackle on Mark Percival after he was examined by the video referee.

“When these games are close and when they are so exciting, there is no better spectacle,” St Helens coach Paul Wellens said.

“You have to take the pressure sometimes and I thought we did that really well and in the end we put in a solid performance in the end.”

April

In April, we saw one of the Premier League’s most decorated managers leave Hull FC after 18 months in charge. Yes, on April 11, Hull parted ways with manager Tony Smith by mutual consent after a poor start to the Premier League season.

At the time the Black and Whites were second bottom of the table and this was ultimately where they would finish the regular season.

“I want to wish the club and all the players well for the future,” Smith said in a statement issued by the club.

“It’s disappointing not to see a job through it as it’s always going to be a challenging project – and I was relishing the opportunity to do that.

“I wish everyone at the club the best for the future.”

In May, the London Broncos recorded their first win of the Premier League season by defeating visiting Hull FC 34-18.

The Broncos earned a surprise promotion to the Premier League after suffering a shock from fifth place in the Championship to beat Toulouse Olympique for promotion.

The Broncos had been goalless up to this stage of the season but ended their drought by running in six tries against the struggling Blacks and Whites.

Leeds Rhinos have come together to remember their inspirational number seven and pay Rob Burrow the proper tribute he deserves.

“In a world full of adversity, you have to dare to dream.” That’s what Rob Burrow CBE has done in his career with a highlight reel that not many can top. Ahead of Leeds Rhinos’ match against Leigh Leopards in June, his boyhood club and Sky Sports paid tribute to the ‘little warrior’ who has made a huge impact.

The Boro family and Leeds Rhinos players gathered together on the pitch after the match to watch a tribute to the inspiring number seven.

On World MND Awareness Day, a packed Headingley Stadium was alive with emotion as family, friends and fans alike gathered to celebrate Leeds’ greatest ever player No.7, who has raised millions for the disease he has fought so valiantly since his diagnosis in 2019.

Sky Sports Rugby League’s Jamie Jones Buchanan described the moment as Burrow’s “brothers and sisters” bringing honors to the “inner sanctuary” and they did so with his wife Lindsay Burrow and parents Erin and Jeff Burrow, as well as 80 of his former teammates. His teammates come from as far away as Australia and New Zealand to celebrate his legacy.

George Williams sent Warrington Wolves into the Premier League play-off semi-finals with a stunning goal against St Helens.

There were plenty of highlights in September, but our highlight was when George Williams heroized Warrington Wolves with a goal to drop the golden point as they completed a stunning comeback to beat St Helens 23-22 in a Betfred Premier League play-off. Remover.

After Morgan Knowles made a stunning save, Williams did not waste his second chance four minutes into extra time to put Sam Burgess’ side 80 minutes away from a place in the grand final.

The Wolves, who have been the victims of many of the Saints’ last-minute wins over the years, finally got their revenge.

Take a look at some exclusive footage as Wigan Warriors players, staff and fans celebrate their Super League Grand Final win over Hull KR at Old Trafford.

In October, the quadruple was confirmed and Wigan Warriors cemented their legacy with a 9-2 win over Hull KR in the Grand Final.

Wigan wrote their name in the history books once again, as their star player Bevan French picked up the inaugural Rob Burrow Player of the Match award, and his individual effort in the first half was the difference between the two sides.

Wigan Warriors’ Bevan French scored the only try in the 2024 grand final against Hull KR, which was very similar to Rob Burrow’s grand final try for Leeds Rhinos against St Helens in 2011.

The Warriors’ victory means they have won the World Club Challenge, League Leaders’ Shield, Challenge Cup and Grand Final within a single calendar year, something that has not happened since 1998.
