Legendary Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was angry with India’s Mohammed Siraj over his actions during the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Gabba, Brisbane. Gavaskar criticized Siraj after his mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja on the fourth day of the Test.

Siraj and Jadeja were involved in a mix-up in the 62nd over of India’s innings. Ravindra Jadeja took a single in the fourth ball of the over with the expectation that Mohammed Siraj would defend the final two balls of the series for Jadeja to return the strike.

While Mohammed Siraj was expected to defend the fifth ball, he instead got a single on the fifth ball. He left the crease again after being bowled out by Australia although he was brought back by Jadeja.

They both completed the song in some way but Jadeja was clearly not happy with Mohammed Siraj as the duo was involved in a conversation in the middle of the field while running.

Sunil Gavaskar tears apart Mohammed Siraj

After seeing the entire incident, Sunil Gavaskar criticized Mohammed Siraj and questioned his “cricket awareness”. He also stated that Siraj should think about his team first instead of taking risks in the singles.

“Even now, in the middle of the crease, they are having a conversation. Siraj is having a conversation. What is happening here? One ball left at the top. All you have to do is stay here. There is no escape,” Gavaskar said in commentary.

“It looks very casual. Look at that. There has to be some cricket awareness. You are the No. 9 batsman. You have to think about the team. You can’t think about doing risky one-offs,” he added.

The accident proved costly for Enida

The whole incident proved costly for India as Jadeja did not get the knock in the next over. With Mohamed Siraj having to face Mitchell Starc in the next round, the task was always going to be difficult.

Starc got Siraj’s wicket on the last ball when he caught it behind the wicket to Alex Carey. He was dismissed for just 1 off 11 balls. It was India’s eighth wicket loss.

Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deb avoid following

India also lost Ravindra Jadeja after several overs as they needed 33 more runs to avoid the follow-on. However, Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deb confirmed that the Men in Blue are avoiding the follow-up in a dramatic manner.

Both Bumrah and Akash Deep are still on the decline and their partnership is unbeaten in 39 runs at the moment. Akash slammed a four over the gully to avoid the follow-on, prompting Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir to make a memorable reaction.

Mohammed Siraj was earlier promoted to ninth position ahead of Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deb. He did not have a good time with the ball earlier as he finished with 2-97 in 23.2 overs.
