A video has gone viral on social media showcasing the consequences of what a property owner in Goa described as a chaotic stay, sparking discussions about guest behavior and respect for property.

The clip, uploaded by the owner of The Golden Perch — a popular Airbnb rental company — depicts a chaotic scene allegedly left by guests after a one-night stand, and features unwashed dishes, milk stains, and a cluttered bedroom.

In a detailed comment accompanying the video, the owner expressed his frustration with the experience, saying: “Enough with the experience. After two years of hosting, we finally had some problems. When you make an effort and someone destroys it, something inside you dies. But we need to come back and focus on making things better.” The post emphasized guests’ desire to show more interest, noting that “running an Airbnb is not easy on the heart.”

Here is the video:

The video sparked debate about the respect due to rental properties, with many viewers rallying behind the homeowner. Some expressed disbelief at the lack of basic courtesy shown to guests, while others defended guests, arguing that cleaning fees typically cover costs associated with tidying up after a stay.

“Whoever did this should be named and publicly shamed. People without any basic sense or decency should be banned from using these services,” one user commented.

Another user wrote: “I think Indians in the comments section don’t understand the concept of airbnb. Clutter is vile. You can easily use a garbage bag to get rid of half the stuff on the table. It’s about awareness and respect which majority of Indians lack.”

However, some people’s opinions were divided about the incident. Users debated whether guests were supposed to clean the utensils after staying for just one day.

One user commented: “Are you suggesting that the guest clean the kitchen and utensils? Also, has there been any damage done to your furniture? I’m a sensible traveler, I don’t keep a lot of utensils and clean them, but the thing is if there are a lot of people, the utensils will be, too.” And the kitchen will be dirty.”

Another user supporting this argument wrote: “It’s not dirty, it’s messy but there’s nothing broken or anything that hasn’t been cleaned…Guests aren’t supposed to clean….It’s not their house, it’s yours.” “.

This incident has prompted suggestions for clearer rules and guidelines for guests to enhance the homestay experience for both hosts and visitors alike.
