Stoke City sacked coach Narciss Belac after only 19 matches in charge.

The former Norwich boss was appointed in September at the age of 36, but has won just three of his 18 league games in the Championship.

A 2-0 Boxing Day defeat at home to Leeds left their side in 19th place in the table, just three points above the relegation zone.

Sporting director John Walters told the club’s official website: “Narcisse is a talented coach with huge potential. He works relentlessly hard and I have no doubt that he will continue to achieve success in the future.”

He added: “However, with the way the results and performances have been in recent weeks, we have to accept in hindsight that he has proven that he is not right for this club at this time.”

“I take full responsibility for that and I am absolutely determined that we will now make the right decision moving forward.

“Every decision we make is driven by our love for Stoke City and our absolute determination to bring success to the club.”

The Potters, who lost five of their last six league matches and tied the other, did not announce the formation of their training team for Sunday’s match against the brilliant Sunderland.
