The cavernous swimming hall in Finland includes a complex of swimming pools and sauna, but in just two days it can be converted into a vast underground bomb shelter with a capacity of about 4000 people. It is just one of a number of shelters throughout the country that during everything at the time of peace, everything from skiing tools to stadiums, but it also constitutes a vital part of the civil defense strategy in Finland and can provide a model for other European countries that look forward to increasing readiness after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
