Shreyas Iyer promises to end the Punjab Kings IPL Trophy drought

Indian national cricket team star Shreyas Iyer said his next big goal is to win the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy with Punjab Kings (PBKS).

Shreyas Iyer said that he is “very excited” to be a part of Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and added that he aims to end the title drought in the franchise.

Shreyas Iyer acquired KKR for INR 26.75 Crores

Shreyas Iyer led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to their third title in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. However, he was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

He was expected to be bought by Delhi Capitals (DC) in the auction, but that did not happen and Punjab Kings acquired his services for a whopping sum of INR 26.75 Crores.

PBKS entered the mega auction with the largest purse, and they built the team from scratch. With new coach Ricky Ponting at the helm, they have managed to build a decent team.

Ponting and Iyer share a great bond, and the duo led Delhi Capitals (DC) to the Indian Premier League (IPL) final in 2020, where they unfortunately lost to Mumbai Indians (MI).

Talking more about Punjab Kings’ other major acquisitions, the franchise has also acquired Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chahal for INR 18 Crores each.

Shreyas Iyer, who is likely to be officially appointed as the captain of Punjab Kings very soon, is having a great time in his career as he has won four trophies this season, the latest being the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

In a video shared by Punjab Kings (PBKS), Iyer said that they worked hard to win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

“It was a surreal feeling after winning SMAT. A lot of hard work has gone in behind the scenes, and the boys have been brilliant in their performance. Now, we are done with that part and moving on to the next big thing, which is the IPL,” Iyer said in a video posted by the chain. Very excited to be a part of Punjab Kings and can’t wait to join the Punjab Kings family.”

Iyer also said that winning the IPL with Punjab Kings has become his primary goal and added that he along with Ricky Ponting are working hard to achieve their goal.

“It’s been a great year for me personally, I’ve won four titles this season. My main target now is to win the Indian Premier League for Punjab. I understand the feeling among the fans, and with Ricky Ponting coming in, we share a great camaraderie from the club. We’ll be brainstorming a lot of things,” Iyer added. “We hope to achieve good results in the first match.”
