GERMAIN LUSIER, IO9: I expected this movie to be frightening and funny, all these types of things. But I did not expect to walk strongly on Disney Vandum. My question to start, what is your history with Disney? Because this could have been just a horror movie, but it is also a love message to Disney as well.

Stephen Lamourti: When I was born, my mother was talented for the stuffed Mickey Mouse animal, who was literally in size when I was born. So I lived with this mouse from birth. So I am a fans of Disney Fans. I got films as a background to be hidden. I have always liked the effects and decades and made a kind of scene, right? I felt this kinship, not only with Walt Disney company or brand, but like a man. Someone always thinks that there is nothing impossible. If you have a dream, you should go to it. So the ability to do what I am pleased to notice (was) a love message to Disney was very enjoyable. It was great.

IO9: So how did you decide to balance? Since you made a decision clearly the dressing of the characters as Disney Princesses, and it includes direct lines from their direct prices from Disney’s songs. Tell me a little when this type of DNA became, how much did you want to pay, and was there a line?

Lamourai: Some people have this pre -idea that we do not like Disney or have a kind of negative opinion, or that we do not appreciate the characters and the IP stove, but this is the opposite. I mean, we love these things. This is something I like it. It was great to make something as I threw a group of jokes that I thought was funny. And my participation writer Matthew Garcia-DND was his idea of ​​integrating princesses, because I saw this party group on board the Statin Island every Saturday when I was in my twenties (laughs). So we had a kind of these things. Then we started searching for these opportunities. Where are these moments merged? Where are these jokes merge? Some are very clear and on the nose, such as the actual line of the movie. Others really really hidden where we imagine, and I like, “Oh, guys, we have to fly this. This is the number 33. There is something in Disney, it is a club, and don’t worry about it. Just make sure you get 33 in the shot.”

We are doing early fans, and it was interesting to talk to different groups and the people all they hunt. We were waking up until every hours of the night, “What would intend in the water that someone might get?” I like, “well, we can do this, we can do this, we can do this,” so the first time we showed the movie, I had a big man, covered with tattoos, and we are at a horror conference. He came to me and he is like, “O shouted, I just want you to know, I have seen Mary Popins Reference. “I was like,” the mission was accomplished! “I didn’t think anyone would get it.

So only, I am inside. I wanted to make something I loved and that people are related to it. And if you don’t like Disney, I think you will enjoy watching the movie. But if you do this, and get the references, I think the movie is more enjoyable. This was somewhat what I wanted to do. Are they Easter eggs? certainly. But it is also the vitality of the DNA to sleep, because this is what people really call. And if you are inside, if you are in the club, you will enjoy their vision.

IO9: On the topic of references, I have something specific to ask about. The main actress, Alison Beetle, could only notice her personality, Selena, seemed to me like a famous Disney YouTube named Jenny Nicholson. Am I outside this?

Lamourai: This is not supposed to be. Sorry.

IO9: Well, I thought a lot but I had to ask. It would have been the deepest pieces of all times.

Lamourai: So there is one there we had to change the last minute. There are some who did not enter the movie, of course. There are some things that we call and did not use, or that we have not finished filming because the number of jokes that we can say before (it’s too much)? So there are some things that you did not enter. But there was one that was supposed to be (the spoiler) (the spoiler) in the first place, I do not remember its name, but the first Mouseteteer. We had the name of the woman, but the legal would not explain this because she is a real person. So we had to change it. But this was one we love, “Oh, this is a lost opportunity to get the original MouseteEer (in the movie).”

IO9: But you managed to get very great Steam FillBeyond Animation sequence there. I will not spoil any details about it, but can you tell me a little more about the origin of that, and how it evolved, and entered the movie?

Lamourai definitely. Well, it was important for me the fact that Steamboat Willie was closed, and that this character was unable to use it for a long time of time, (and) factor (that) in the story. I knew it was an organic way to explain the reason for not having our personality like cartoon, because he got some miles. He was imprisoned for a long period of time. We had some great ideas as much as we wanted to show and how we wanted to do so. Of course, we are in an independent movie. And we said, “Well, if he is an animated person, the best way to link these two is to show him as before, the version that we all know because it was created in the early twentieth century.” Then I use this moving sequence to tell the story, do this in a manner that praises the way that was originally drawn … and while I do not know if we have approval to what we do with the character. I think we will get at least some cake points to restore the old animation style and honor the classic character and creator.

IO9: Another question. When I saw trailers, for some reason, I thought Willie was a full -sized creature. So I was a little confused to watch the movie when I realized that in reality the size of Mickey Mouse. I know that you used a lot of different techniques to achieve this, but I wonder if its size was one of the main considerations?

Lamourai: Once we started developing the text program, the decision came very early that it would be small. Because once you start looking at the character designs, not in terms of how Steamboat Willie was as a drawing or cartoon, but how it was in the real world, we had to look at this famous statue, “partners”, where Walt Disney stands and got his arm and his neighbor Mickey Mouse. So he gave us a sense of example, “If he would become small and the amulet in the park will not be, it would have a human size, then he should be really young.”

We have seen Chouky and saw LePrechaun, so there were small fatal creatures in the past, and this was done very effectively several times. But I knew whether he would be a living cartoon character, I thought there would be some limits to do so anyway, unlike reducing a full -sized moving person.
