The death toll from a strong earthquake of 7.7 in Myanmar increased to more than 1000 on Saturday, as rescue teams regained more bodies from the debris of many buildings that collapsed when the earthquake was hit near the second largest city in the country. “The Red Cross has conducted rescue operations and provided all the necessary emergency assistance, focusing on reaching people, especially those who lost their homes,” says Mary Mariki, the program coordinator of the International Red Cross. The urgent needs at this moment are housing, water and transportation.
