Xabi Alonso has not yet decided whether Bayer Leverkusen coach will remain for the next season.

The former midfielder at Real Madrid, Liverpool and Bayern Munich were linked to all three clubs last summer before he pledged to stay in Bayarina, but after 12 months, it was not clear when he was asked about his future.

With each of the Arne Slot and Vincent Kompany are relatively new on their roles in Liverpool and Bayern, respectively, and good performance with both clubs on the edge of local titles, Madrid was the most destination that spoke with Alonso this summer.

But the 43 -year -old did not give up anything and says that his focus on finishing the season well with Leverkusen as they look to defend the Bundesliga crown they won for the first time last season.

Speculation in Spain suggested that Alonso would announce his decision today before the home match tomorrow night with Bochum, but he said: “There was nothing to decide.

“I have already said that our focus, for me and the players, is (on) what we have. We should not think far (forward). We go to the game. Individually (this is my interest) too.

When asked if there was a deadline to decide, he added: “No, no, my thoughts are the same. I said (I) focused on this season, this is the most important thing. We are in an important stage. We do not want to speculate, we do not want to think about (anything) but for football.

Brazil’s endeavor to Ancelotti may complicate matters

While Carlo Ancelotti is still in Santiago Bernabeu, Madrid President Florentino Perez will be relatively comfortable, but this situation can change if Brazil goes up their interest in Italian.

The Brazilian Football Association is believed to have set a meeting date to discuss the future of Dorival Junior following the arrest of Selecao 4-1 by Argentina in the World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday and reports indicate that they want Anceotti at the end of the season to give him a lot of time to provide his fingerprints before the World Cup next summer.

If this scenario is run, Madrid can test Alonso’s intention to see his contract in Leverkusen, which will continue until June 2026.

Gotti wants Alonso in Madrid

The former Madrid midfielder Gutti believes that Alonso is the best man for this position in European champions.

“Is Xabi Alonso the successor of Ancelotti? He is, he is, undoubtedly.

“I think what he did in Germany last year shows that he could be able to do this at Real Madrid. We are talking about the Leverkusen team that has not won anything for years, and has never won the Bundesliga.

“Let’s give him the opportunity.”
