In a large relapse of the taxi taxis, the Karnataka Supreme Court ruled that taxi services for bicycles cannot work in the state until the government directs specific rules and regulations under Article 3 of the Automobile Law, 1988. The April 2 order directs the state government and the Ministry of Transport to ensure that all taxi services stopped within six weeks.

The decision is likely to directly affect approximately 1.5 Rapido Cycling taxi, known as “Qabatnah”, and more than 50 may be disrupted per month across the state of Karnataka. Rapido is the largest taxi player in Karnataka with OLA and Uber as strong competitors.

This step reflects the position of Delhi, as there has been a similar ban since 2023. However, the implementation in the national capital has been lenient, with many of the compounds continuing to formulate the ongoing policy.

In the case of Karnataka, the Supreme Court granted the state government and the Ministry of Transport a three -month window to formulate and implement the instructions that would organize taxi operations for bikes.

In response to this development, a spokesman for Rabdo said, “We believe a firm belief that taxi taxis are an integral part of urban transport, and the decisive gaps in the first and others of the passengers, and while the government is working on a regulatory framework, we remain optimistic that the voices of blind workers, who take care of bicycles, will be considered.”

The company also said it is reviewing the court’s order and evaluating potential legal treatments to ensure a service without interruption for its users.

This is not the first time that Karnataka withdrew taxi support. A previous attempt to organize the sector was withdrawn through the Karnataka electric bicycle diagram, which was launched in July 2021 to enhance the use of electric vehicles, in the end after failing to achieve the expected results.

While the state is preparing to give the official character to the taxi sector, the compounds, the party workers and the passengers are waiting for the future of the service that has become necessary in many Indian cities.
