The Spanish prosecutors are scheduled to appeal a judicial decision that has been condemned by former Brazilian soccer player Danny Alves.

Alves, a Champions League winner three times in Barcelona, was condemned last year by raping a young woman in a Spanish nightclub in 2022. He was sentenced to four and a half years in prison.

However, on Friday, the Barcelona Court of Appeal canceled the first ruling, noting the contradictions and contradictions in the trial of Alves.

The court ruled that there is not enough evidence to prove his guilt in a way that does not doubt.

The Appeals Court also described the accused as “the non -reliable complaint”, saying that her testimony was “significantly different” from the video clips that were taken before she and Elvis the bathroom entered, as she claimed that he forced her to have a non -consensual sex.

In a statement, the Prosecutor’s Office in Catalonia confirmed that he was planning to challenge the ruling, but he did not provide more details.

In response to the decision of the Court of Appeal, hundreds of demonstrators in Barcelona gathered on Monday in a protest organized by the feminist groups. He carried many signs that condemns the ruling as “unacceptable” and demanding a cancellation.

Prime Minister Maria Jesus Montero said that he was a “shame” that the testimony of a victim of rape “is still being interrogated” and that “the assumption of innocence has the precedence over the testimony of young women and courage.”

She later apologized on Tuesday, explaining that she did not intend to “question the assumption of innocence.” However, she confirmed that the decision of the Court of Appeal to persuade Alves represents a “step back.”

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, who put himself as a church, gave the priority to the battle against sexual violence. His administration reformed the country’s criminal law in 2022, when it redefined all non -consensual sex as rape.

This legal change came in response to the case of a 18 -year -old woman, which was obtained by five men during the Saint Fermin Thurlow Festival in Pamplona.

Alves, 41, was now imprisoned, after his arrest in January 2023. He remained in detention until March 2024, when he was released on bail of one million euros (853,000 pounds) while waiting for his resumption.
