Mexico’s Pachuca became the first team to lift the FIFA Americas Derby Cup by defeating Botafogo in Doha.
Mexico’s Pachuca beat Brazil’s Botafogo 3-0 in the Intercontinental Cup to reach the next stage of the competition.
Second-half goals from Pachuca’s Osama Idrissi, Nelson Diosa and Salomon Rondon gave the North American champions victory over their South American counterparts on Wednesday at Stadium 974 in Doha.
The winner of the all-American tie will advance to the next round of the new Intercontinental Cup format, where they will meet CAF Champions League champions Al Ahly of Egypt on December 14.
Real Madrid, the current Champions League title holder, is awaiting the final match in four days. The final match will be held on December 18 at Lusail Stadium, the venue that hosted the 2022 World Cup final.
Pachuca qualified for the tournament after winning the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup – following a 3-0 final win over MLS side Columbus Crew in early June.
The defeat affected two wonderful weeks for Botafogo, during which they won the Libertadores Cup and finished the Brazilian League.
This year’s Intercontinental Cup is the inaugural FIFA Intercontinental Cup, an annual club football tournament organized by FIFA.
