OYO, a leading travel and hotel booking platform, has implemented a new check-in policy for its partner hotels, starting with Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

As per the revised guidelines, unmarried couples will no longer be allowed to check-in, according to a report by PTI. This policy will come into effect this year.

Under OYO’s updated policy, all couples, including those with online bookings, must provide valid proof of their relationship at the time of check-in.

The new guidelines were initially implemented in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, and are based on local feedback. Partner hotels in the city have been directed to implement the rules immediately.

Sources indicate that the company may expand the scope of the policy to other cities, depending on the response and effectiveness observed in Meerut.

Reports indicate that civil society groups had previously approached OYO, particularly in Meerut, seeking action on the issue.

Sources also revealed that residents of other cities submitted similar petitions. “OYO has received comments in the past from civil society groups, especially in Meerut urging action to address this issue. Additionally, residents from a few other cities have filed a petition to prevent unmarried couples from checking in at OYO hotels,” they stated.

This initiative is part of OYO’s efforts to reshape its image and establish itself as a trusted brand that offers safe experiences to families, students, business travellers, religious pilgrims and solo travellers, said Pawas Sharma, Country Head, OYO North India.

To further this goal, OYO has launched several initiatives nationwide, including organizing joint seminars with police and hotel partners to promote safe hospitality practices, blacklisting hotels found to be involved in unethical activities, and taking strict action against unauthorized establishments. Which misuses the brand of OYO.
