Octavio Dute, who won the world championship with St. Luis Cardinal in 2011, was inside a nightclub Dominican Republican nightclub when the ceiling collapsed.

The former MLB jug was later pulled into the rubble at Jet Set Nightclub in Santo Domingo, according to New York Post.

More than twenty people died and 160 others were injured in the Dominican capital early Tuesday when the iconic night club was where politicians, athletes and others were attending a concert, the authorities of the Associated Press said.

About 12 hours after the upper part of the nightclub collapsed on shepherds, the rescue sets were still withdrawing the survivors of the debris. In the scene, firefighters used blocks of broken concrete and pieces of wooded wood to lift the heavy debris as the noise of the exercises that are cut through concrete fills the air.

It was not immediately clearly the cause of the ceiling collapse.

Jet Set issued a statement saying it is cooperating with the authorities.

“The loss of human life leaves us in a state of deep pain and dismay,” he said.
