Nissan has become the latest automaker to retreat from “woke” DEI practices, following Toyota and Ford

Nissan is said to be retreating from a number of… DEI initiativesincluding controversial hiring practices and corporate funding of some Pride events.

“Instead, we had productive conversations about how to fix this,” Starbuck wrote.

Starbuck said Nissan executives worked with him to implement several reforms, including the end of diversity-based hiring practices and mandatory DEI or LGBTQ training for employees.

“No quotas for hiring, promotions or diverse suppliers. Focus now on merit and performance,” he wrote.

Nissan has also reportedly agreed to review future funding for corporate-sponsored events “to ensure sponsorship aligns with brand standards and business priorities,” according to Starbuck.

“This means no more funding for Pride events that expose children to sexually inappropriate content like the San Francisco Pride event they recently sponsored that exposed children to highly inappropriate content.”

The company also plans to withdraw its participation in the Human Rights Council’s “Business Equality Index, and will not participate in any third-party survey with a political activism angle,” Starbuck said.

“This will not only have a positive impact on their employees who will have a neutral workplace without raising divisive issues, but it will also undoubtedly extend to the many suppliers who are abandoning woke policies,” he wrote on X.

Nissan did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

The auto company joins a long list of major companies that have rolled back DEI policies and practices after widespread backlash. Earlier this week, a conservative watchdog announced that American Airlines had agreed to end service Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) recruitment and hiring practices, after the group filed a federal complaint alleging discrimination by the airline.

Walmart also recently approved a list of changes to its DEI policies, Starbuck announced in November. The changes were similarly approved after he warned executives that he would write a story about “wokeness” in The retail giant said.

In October, Toyota announced its plans to move away from DEI and pro-LGBTQ events after facing intense criticism online.

The company sent a memo to its US employees saying it would “narrow community activities to align with STEM education and workforce readiness” and would no longer participate in the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index. Bloomberg reported at the time.

In the letter to employees, Toyota said it will continue to “encourage an inclusive environment where diversity of thought can flourish,” but the company will focus primarily on activities that enhance business quality.
