Australian Nathan Lyon opened the huge combination between Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal later on day two of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. A mix-up later led to Jaiswal being run out and opening the floodgates for the hosts.
Nathan Lyon tried to play mind games by claiming that the run out suddenly came out of nowhere when the two Indian batsmen were building a strong partnership. Kohli and Jaiswal were batting very well and looked like they would wrap up the day without much fanfare.
However, Australia’s moment came when Jaiswal was unfortunately run out scoring a brilliant 82 off 118 balls. India went on to lose two wickets in a short span of time before stumps on the second day. One of these two wickets was from Virat Kohli.

Nathan Lyon is run out on Virat Kohli-Yashasvi Jaiswal
Speaking to ABC Sport after the end of today’s match, Nathan Lyon seemed to suggest that Australia had been given a great gift through Yashasvi Jaiswal’s wicket late in the day. He admitted that India were cruising all the way and the wicket came out of the blue.
“It was probably one of the best barbecues I’ve ever seen. It just came out of the blue. They were doing it so easy out there. I know pressure does funny things and we were able to build up that little bit of pressure – that’s what I felt like the ridiculous run-outs anyway.” They’re killer trainers, aren’t they? Leon said.
Lyon was briefly referring to the pressure put on Jaiswal and Kohli by the Australian bowlers and fielders. Jaiswal even smashed a boundary on the previous ball but a rush of blood from the youngster led to his wicket.
Virat Kohli was also later dismissed
Virat Kohli was also dismissed after Jaiswal’s wicket fell in a very disappointing spell of play for India. He scored 36 off 86 balls in an innings where he looked confident from the crease. Kohli hit 4 fours in his knock.
Kohli was tested by the Australian bowlers in the fourth and fifth overs but was determined enough to leave the balls and focus hard on his defence. However, Jaiswal’s run-out broke his concentration and he was finally dismissed when he collected a wide-length ball from Scott Boland and smashed it to wicket-keeper Alex Carey.
During this series, Kohli was not at his best as he was constantly tested outside the off stump. Aside from these innings and his century in Perth, he has failed to get a major score under his belt.
Australia is inches ahead of India
India also lost the wicket of night-keeper Akash Deb after Virat Kohli’s dismissal. By the end of the day’s play, the Men in Blue were 164-5 with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease. India still trail by 310 runs and still need 110 runs to avoid the follow-on.
Earlier, Australia posted a huge total of 474 in the first innings on the back of a brilliant hundred from Steve Smith and fifties from top three bowlers Sam Konstas, Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne.
