Munguia should ‘stay away’ from Sauras match, says Benavidez Sr.

Coach Jose Benavidez Sr. advised Jaime Munguia not to have a rematch with Bruno Suras after he knocked him out in the sixth round last Saturday night in Tijuana, Mexico on December 14th.

Jose Sr. says Sauras (26-0-2, 5 KOs) will be “very motivated” after his win, and could cause another “upset” in his rematch with former WBO junior middleweight champion Munguia (44-2, 35 ). ko). Benavidez Sr. wants Munguia to walk away from the loss, live his life, and never fight again.

Avoid a rematch

Jose Sr. feels Munguia should have finished Suras after knocking him down in the second round. He believes he let him off the hook because he wanted to please the fans. It doesn’t seem like that. Munguia appeared to try to throw him out, but changed his mind after Sorace, 26, hit him with a huge right hand to the head.

This shot made Munguia back down because it was as difficult as the one that knocked him out in the sixth game.

According to Salvador Rodriguez of ESPN Knockout, Munguia’s promoters at Zanfer want to trigger a rematch clause in their contract with Surace to force a rematch in the first half of 2025.

“I think he was taking his time and trying to find the perfect shot. I think it should have been Jaime,” Jose Benavidez Sr. said. Combat Center TV When asked why Jaime Munguia suffered a surprise knockout loss to Bruno Sauras last Saturday night.

“I think he (Mungia) was trying to please the people and his fans, and that’s what happened. I think if he had pushed the gas a little bit more, I think he would have stopped him when he dropped him (in the second round). He probably thought this guy was too easy. I’ll put on a show for the fans, and after So I can pull it off.

“This is a big mistake he made. I think he should have stopped it, he should have dealt with everything and taken things seriously. It’s a little difficult. I would like to let that go away. I will not have a rematch,” Jose Sr. said when asked if Munguia should have had a rematch with Sauras: “I will move on with my life and I will not accept that fight.”

It will be interesting to see if Jose Sr. will have the same attitude about not having a rematch if his son, David Benavidez, is knocked out by the Sauras. Would David recommend not triggering the rematch clause if the Sauras knock him out in the sixth round last Saturday night?

“Now this guy is on his mind. This guy is very motivated, and he showed the world what he can do. You can imagine the motivation he has now. In fact, he (Sorates) is a very good fighter. He was really good, and I think he’s a very good fighter,” Jose Sr. said. “We could have another surprise.”
