Modders are turning Doom into a classic art gallery

There’s more nuance to Doomguy than just being a guy taking down Hellspawn with a BFG. He’s quite the art connoisseur, too – or at least that’s what he is new death Ministry of Defense Maybe you think.

Moderators Filippo Meozzi and Liam Stone have turned E1M1, the first map in the original game, into an interactive art gallery. Death: The Exhibition Experiencewhich is a free browser game itch.io and Newgroundssees Doomguy holding a glass of wine or a can of beer while perusing classical works of art, collecting money and listening to Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Suite No. 1 in G major.”

Death: The Exhibition Experience “It was created as a piece of art designed to emulate the wonderful world of gallery openings,” reads the game’s Itch.io page. “In this experience, you’ll be able to walk around and admire some fine art while sipping some wine and enjoying complimentary appetizers in id’s beautifully renovated and redesigned E1M1 Software death (1993).”

You can use the money to buy things like socks and a handbag at the gift shop, and eat appetizers to fill the cheese meter (there’s one for drinks, too). Doomguy is even wearing a pair of trendy glasses here.

When you interact with works of art such as those of Jacopo da Celaio Scenes from the story of the Argonauts Or Piero di Cosimo back from fishing, You will see a link to the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s web page. Alternatively, Doomguy may tell you that he doesn’t want to look at a particular piece anymore. Maybe he just wants to get back to shooting demons. Same, Doomjoy, same.
