Earlier this year, Meta previewed Movie Gen, an AI-powered video editing tool (At least in the sample clips that have been released). However, at the time, Meta said it was still a research project with no immediate plans to make the features available to users.
But now it looks like Movie Gen may be arriving on Instagram sooner rather than later. Adam Mosseri, a senior Instagram executive, posted a photo previewed the kind of seamless AI adjustments that will eventually be possible, saying that the company “hopes to bring that to Instagram next year.”
In the clip, Mosseri says Meta is “working on some really exciting AI tools” for video creators. “You should be able to do anything you want with your videos,” he says. “You should be able to change your clothes, change the context you’re sitting in, add a chain – whatever comes to your mind.”
Throughout the short clip, Mosseri’s background and clothing change several times, including a brief shot where he appears as a Muppet-inspired character. Throughout the clip, transitions appear largely smooth without any obvious AI effects. Of course, this won’t necessarily be the case once Movie Gen is actually available and the videos of its capabilities are no longer fully controlled by the Meta. But if it works out like Mosseri’s teaser video, it could open up some interesting possibilities for Instagram creators.
It’s probably no coincidence that the Meta only teases this feature OpenAI has released its video creation model to subscribers.
