Medics said an Israeli air strike killed 22 people in a house in northern Gaza

Medics said that Israeli raids on the northern and central Gaza Strip on Wednesday resulted in the killing of at least 33 Palestinians, most of them in the town of Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip.

Health officials said that an Israeli air strike on a house in Beit Lahia killed at least 22 people, including women and children. Relatives of the victims posted the names of the dead on social media.

The Palestinian Wafa news agency said that at least 30 people were living in the multi-storey building before it was bombed, adding that many family members are still missing as rescue operations continue until the morning hours.

The Israeli army told Reuters that it launched a strike targeting Hamas activists near Kamal Adwan Hospital, located between Beit Lahia and Jabalia, two towns on the northern edge of the Gaza Strip that have been under an Israeli siege for two months.

Medics told Reuters on Wednesday that at least seven Palestinians were killed and several others were injured in an Israeli air strike on a house in the Nuseirat camp in the central Gaza Strip.

The Palestinian Civil Emergency Service and paramedics said that four other people were killed in separate Israeli air strikes on two homes in Gaza City, including journalist Iman Al-Shanti and her son. The Palestinian Journalists Union said that the journalist is the 193rd journalist killed by Israel since the beginning of the war.

In the town of Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip, where Israeli forces have been operating since October, medics said that an Israeli air strike killed and wounded several people. Rescue workers said that several people were trapped under the rubble of a house.

The Israeli army said in a statement that two rockets were fired from the central Gaza Strip at Israel, but they landed in open areas and did not cause any casualties. This indicates the ability of militants in Gaza to continue launching missile attacks despite the devastating Israeli air and military attacks that have been ongoing for 14 months.

Israeli forces have been operating in Beit Hanoun, the nearby town of Beit Lahia, and the Jabalia refugee camp since October 5, fighting Hamas militants who launch attacks from those areas and preventing them from regrouping.

Palestinian officials and residents accuse Israel of evacuating the two towns and the refugee camp located on the northern edge of the Strip to create a buffer zone, something Israel denies.

Israel launched its air and ground war on Gaza after Hamas-led fighters attacked Israeli towns across the border 14 months ago, killing 1,200 people and taking more than 250 hostages to Gaza, according to Israeli statistics.

The Gaza Ministry of Health says the Israeli military campaign since then has killed more than 44,400 Palestinians and injured countless others. The Palestinian Civil Emergency Service estimates that the bodies of 10,000 people may be trapped under the rubble, bringing the announced death toll to more than 50,000.
