Robert Lawson: New CEO of the Millennium Challenge Corporation

Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has been appointed as its new Chief Executive and Secretary. He will replace Guy Lavender, who has served at MCC for seven years. Lawson is a senior energy executive and will officially start his new role at Lord’s in mid-February 2025.

Lawson has valuable experience in various fields. He served as Executive Vice President at Mercuria Energy Group as of 2022 and Global Head of Mergers and Acquisitions at BP. Its impressive track record features more than $100 billion in transactions.

The strategic vision of the Millennium Challenge Center

Lawson’s appointment comes at a critical time for the MCC as the club positions itself to adapt to the evolving landscape of modern cricket. With Lord’s being the heart of the London Spirit franchise, MCC is set to hold a profitable 51% stake as part of The Hundred’s upcoming share sale.

Mark Nicholas, Chairman of the MCC, emphasized Lawson’s extensive business experience and deep appreciation for cricket, and said: “Rob Lawson has emerged as a truly outstanding candidate from a very strong field,” said Mark Nicholas, Chairman of the MCC. “His impressive commercial track record coupled with his deep love of cricket and first-hand understanding of private members clubs such as the RAC, promises a dynamic and exciting future for the MCC. Rob’s global perspective and ability to connect with diverse stakeholders will perfectly complement the cricket and events experience within the MCC leadership team.” A time of huge potential and opportunity for the club, and I am delighted to welcome Rob to the helm.

Lawson’s vision for MCC

Lawson expressed his commitment to preserving the legacy of the MCC and will address modern opportunities and challenges.

“I am deeply honored to take on the role of Chief Executive and Secretary at MCC, a club that embodies the spirit and tradition of cricket,” Lawson said. “I look forward to collaborating with Mark, the members, committee and the entire MCC team. To build on its storied history while exploring the opportunities and challenges of modern cricket.” The club’s ongoing mission is to work for the good of the game.

He has experience in large-scale investments, partnerships and organizational change. He can play a critical role in promoting MCC’s business ventures, improving member engagement and navigating developments in the Hundred Championship.
