Manchester City have provided an update on captain Alex Greenwood after the defender was taken off the field earlier this month.

city Captain Alex Greenwood was substituted off the ground in the early stages of the team’s 2-0 win over St. Pölten in the Women’s Champions League.

The club have officially confirmed Greenwood’s injury, explaining that the defender suffered damage to her medial collateral ligament (MCL).

“The defender has since undergone an MCL repair and will now return to the City Football Academy to work closely with the club’s medical team,” City announced via a club statement on Thursday morning.

The Cityzens have not offered a timetable for Greenwood’s return at this stage, but are eagerly hoping for a quick turnaround as injury problems continue to pile up.

Greenwood joins teammates Lauren Hemp and Vivienne Miedema on the sidelines after both stars underwent knee surgeries earlier in the season.

Despite the sad news of Greenwood’s injury, England fans are hoping for a quick recovery before next summer’s European Championship in Switzerland.
