In his traditional New Year’s Eve presidential address, French President Emmanuel Macron admitted on Tuesday that his decision in June to call early elections “led to further division in the National Assembly instead of offering solutions to the French people,” acknowledging that the move was high-risk. It led to months of political stalemate.
